Innovation’s PharmASSIST ROBOTx Helps Village Drug Shop
Gain Control of Prescription Filling Process

Athens, Georgia Independent Cites System’s Technology as Key to Automation Decision

JOHNSON CITY, NY – May 15, 2007 – Innovation Associates, makers of PharmASSIST® pharmacy automation solutions, today announced that Village Drug Shop of Athens, Georgia has automated their prescription fulfillment process with the firm’s PharmASSIST ROBOTx™ system. Village Drug Shop purchased the robotic dispensing system to help increase operational efficiency and filling accuracy, and to avoid having to increase their pharmacy staff.

“To take the chaos out of my pharmacy, I had a decision to make; hire more staff or go with automation. Since we implemented Innovation’s ROBOTx, our process is now under control and we’ve decreased the unnecessary confusion we used to deal with in the pharmacy, said Chris Thurmond, PharmD and owner, Village Drug Shop. “The deciding factor for me was the technology. I think Innovation’s ROBOTx system is the best technology on the market. It’s scalable and its individual dispensers make drug changeovers amazingly easy.”

Village Drug Shop fills on average 240 prescriptions per day and has peak days of approximately 325 prescriptions, which includes filling prescriptions for three assisted living facilities. The pharmacy’s PharmASSIST ROBOTx system currently includes 100 dispensers and is scalable up to 140 dispensers. The system is integrated with their QS/1® pharmacy management and QS/1 IVR systems. Village Drug Shop’s current staff includes two pharmacists, one pharmacy technician, and two clerks.

Thurmond also likes the general appearance and design of PharmASSIST ROBOTx. “The system is very professional and clinical looking, and I want my pharmacy to portray that image to my customers,” said Thurmond. “Footprint was also one of my criteria and ROBOTx was right in the ballpark size-wise.”

“Village Drug Shop’s deployment of our ROBOTx system is yet another example of how independent pharmacies can start with an initial set of dispensers, and then scale up when the time is right for their operation and finances,” said Doyle Jensen, VP, sales & marketing, Innovation.
