Innovation’s RDS ROBOTx System Aids U.S Air Force in Wake of Katrina

JOHNSON CITY, NY - October 3, 2005 - With Keesler Air Force Base’s medical center and satellite BX operation—which include the base’s pharmacies—out of commission due to Hurricane Katrina, Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas has assisted Keesler Air Force personnel with the filling of much needed prescriptions.

Located in Biloxi, Mississippi, Keesler AFB experienced extensive water damage to their electrical systems, which shut down their computerized pharmacy automation systems. In the interim, Keesler pharmacy personnel have been working out of the nearby Clinical Research Laboratory providing prescription services for active duty Air Force personnel seen in the EMEDS (Emergency Medical Services).

To assist Keesler in their time of need, Lackland AFB offered the use of Innovation’s RDS ROBOTx system to process the base’s many refill prescriptions. Enlisting the cooperation of numerous parties, the Air Force established communication between Keesler's CHCS pharmacy management system and Innovation’s RDS ROBOTx system. In the first three days of operation, Lackland processed and delivered over 3000 refills to the local VA in Biloxi, which is serving as the patient pick-up center.
