Elwyn Pharmacy Deploys Innovations’ PharmASSIST Symphony+ System to Fill Over 4000 Prescriptions Weekly
Philadelphia Area Independent Lauds PharmASSIST’s Small Footprint and Workflow Features for Long-Term Care Business

JOHNSON CITY, NY - November 9, 2005 - Innovation Associates announced today that Elwyn Pharmacy of Media, Pennsylvania, has successfully implemented their PharmASSIST® Symphony+ System to address their rapidly growing prescription volume and expanding long-term care business. Elwyn Pharmacy fills over 4000 prescriptions weekly and recently surpassed a bed count of 1800 covering 9 long-term care facilities and 8 group home organizations.

“When we began our search for automation, we had several goals we wanted to achieve with our use of this technology,” says Nick Karalis, R.Ph and an owner of Elwyn Pharmacy. “We wanted to maximize our filling potential from our existing location. We needed a small footprint due to our limited pharmacy space. And we wanted to enhance the overall quality of our filling process. Our Symphony+ system has met all of these criteria, and provides us with the flexibility to upgrade our dispensing capacity or migrate to Innovation’s ROBOTx system at some point down the road.”

Elwyn Pharmacy fills on average 700 prescriptions per day and has peak days of approximately 1000 prescriptions. The independent’s Symphony+ system is comprised of 2 PharmASSIST cabinets, 100 dispensers, and multiple workstations for their various workflow tasks. The pharmacy’s general pharmacy and the long-term care filling areas total approximately 875 square feet. The system is fully integrated with their pharmacy management system, HBS, ensuring real-time prescription order flow for all Rx fulfillment tasks.

“After just a few months, the system’s various quality features and real-time prescription tracking has certainly increased the comfort level of all our pharmacists. They feel confident that they’ve checked every prescription as thoroughly as possible,” says Karalis. “Symphony+ also handles the nuances of the long-term care filling with ease, making our overall workflow an efficient running machine. We definitely would not be able to process this many prescriptions in such a small space without our Symphony+ system.”

Elwyn Pharmacy has served the Media, Pennsylvania community since 1967.
