U.S. Government Awards Innovation Associates with Combined Forces
Robotic Refill Center Contract for Pikes Peak Region
Pharmacy Automation Vendor’s PharmASSIST Technology to Serve U.S. Air Force Bases and U.S. Army Hospital

JOHNSON CITY, NY - August 4, 2003 - Innovation Associates announces that the U.S. Government has awarded the firm a contract to automate the prescription dispensing and to design and build a Robotic Refill Center for the military’s Pikes Peak Region in Colorado. Employing their PharmASSIST® automated dispensing technology, Innovation will automate the prescription refill volume of the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), the Peterson Air Force Base Clinic Pharmacy, and the Evans Army Community Hospital. The Robotic Refill Center will be located adjacent to the USAFA Community Center and will process approximately 7000 refill orders daily, over two shifts, for the outpatient pharmacies. The center is due for completion in the fall.

The Robotic Refill Center will include two Robotic PharmASSIST systems; PharmASSIST Symphony Software; vial feed/print-and-apply labeling system; pneumatic transport system; vial sealer, multi-level conveyor system; and a variety of manual filling, Rx Verification, and Rx Packing stations. The PharmASSIST Robotic Systems will provide the capability for back-panel replenishment of all dispensers and service access, enabling full-speed continuous operation while all filling-related tasks are performed. The USAF will process the refills by location and deliver them on a daily basis.

In other news, Innovation will also address the diverse dispensing requirements of each of the Government pharmacy locations by implementing PharmASSIST Symphony+ Systems. Each Symphony+ System will have a different physical configuration of PharmASSIST cabinets and workstations to match up with each location’s prescription volume and physical layout. Each pharmacy location will use an Symphony+ System to fill new prescriptions, with all refill volume moving to the Robotic Refill Center.
